Luigi's Mansion Speedrun in early days - Survive's ERA & Timing differences -

This is a supplementary article about me and Survive, who had the world record for a moment and had mastered the game before Xealous, which appears briefly in the first half of this video. I've been helping out with the English version of the video above by searching through past materials, so please forgive me if I talk about myself a bit. But the main part is not mine.

Survive is broadcaster in NicoNico Live in 2009-2010. His first World Record is 1:33:05 as you can see in the video. But he lived Luigi's Mansion before got WR. In early days, his record was 1:40~1:50... I remember.

Although it is cut off in the video, after his first world record, he continued to improve his record with 1:30:25 in October 2009 and 1:28:44 in December 2009. After that, he set a record of 1:23:06 at an unknown time, and then set a record of 1:19:45 on February 25, 2010, the first time he posted a video on NicoVideo.

This video is no longer accessible (there was still a way to access it when I was providing information on the English version of the video above...). I'm sorry, but I can't show you the site as evidence. I apologize for that. After this, He updated the time to 1:18:25, and then extended the record to 1:13:41, a post on SDA that is the reason why Survive's name is still known today.

And, this 1:13:41 has been posted on NicoVideo, again.

Luckily, you can check it out on the WebArchive. By the way, you may have noticed that the SDA says 1:13:41 while the poster himself says 1:13:51.

This is due to the fact that SDA's timing is measured from the start of Luigi's operation (the moment he starts moving in the mansion) to the moment King Boo's HP reaches zero. However, if you look at the postings in the thread that seems to have been made after the discussion when this record was posted on SDA back in the day, you will see that some people have measured 1:13:48. Why there were differences? But if we want to know the truth, we ask people who operating SDA over 11 years ago... The world record for Luigi's Mansion at that time, when there was no such thing as Speedrun.com, was 1:13:41, and it has been handed down to the present day without any consideration for measurement errors. Survive's run is still available for download from SDA, so you can see for yourself the "Reset Game to Suck up King Boo" timing that Survive used. You will see that it is actually 1:13:51. The current widely used measurement timing is "From file selection to Suck up King Boo".

There was no movement for a long time after that, but he reported that he updated the time to 1:13:51 in this video(NicoVideo). The record at this time is given as 1:13:38 in the document at hand.

Then, at the end of 2010, this record, 1:11:32, was recorded and posted.

This video is the last record of Survive (then known as XAvive). He's been filling the world of Luigi's Mansion for about 20 minutes by himself, with no one to compete with, since there was only one video on SDA. It's hard to imagine what the early days of this game would have been like without him.

It was early 2012, back in the day. Swordfish464, a famous streamer in today, was showing off his fierce charge on NicoNicoLive, coming close to the Woeld Record at the time. Seeing this, I remembered the RTA for this game and joined in, beating Survive's last record by one second with a time of 1:11:31 on February 7. Xealous went on to break the record with 1:10:52 and then 1:10:20 in February. Both of them had videos at the time, but the YouTube channels have since been deleted, so you can't view them. 1:10:52 was featured in a thread on SDA by mugg, who is known for his work on MOTHER2's TAS.

At the same time, Luigi's Mansion is on the move over the ocean, He is Bonesaw577. I never asked him how he started speedrunning this game, but in those days without Speedrun.com, I'm sure he must have gotten the idea from SDA's records page or threads like the one above. The video posted at the top of this page gives a detailed information of Bonesaw577's excellent work and Xealous' struggle.

By the way, SDA also has a 100% RTA record of 1:36:13 that was set 16 years ago.  according to the "NicoNico RTA Wiki", Survive also tried 100% run, setting a record of 1:44:25 on April 24, 2010. But this 1:36:13 is also in the so-called SDA Timing, which is "the measurement of the moment Luigi's operation starts (the moment he starts moving in the mansion) to the moment King Boo's HP reaches zero", which is 1:36:19 in major timings. On February 9, 2012, Xealous recorded a time of 1:36:16 for the "Reset Game to Suck up King Boo" measurement, effectively making him the second Luigi's Mansion RTA winner in just two days. However, modern history books seem to treat the record as "the standard of measurement at the time as left on the website at the time", so it is not said that this was a world record. However, Xealous wrote in June 2012, "I got a PM saying that 100% is also a world record. I knew it. It seems that there were people who were aware of the measurement error at that time.

In fact, I sent out the fact about this measurement error when I provided the information in the English version of the video posted at the top, but it was ignored. I wasn't trying to tell them about myself, but about the history of any% (No OoB) world record, which is the main subject of the video. Yes, there is another pattern of measurement error in Luigi's Mansion.

The current widely used measurement timing is, as mentioned above, "from file selection to Suck up King Boo". However, I have confirmed with my own eyes that Veman3000, who appears in the video, made measurements around the fall of 2013 at "from file selection to the moment King Boo's HP reaches 0". At least, the record he made during this period may not be accurate, as the timing of the end of the measurement is a few seconds earlier than now. (And I told that when I provided the information for the international version.)

However, no one in the community seems to remember such a thing, and the records are being handled as they were "based on the measurement timing at the time". Personally, I would have liked to see at least some annotations, but since I am not an active participant in the community, I kept my mouth shut. That's not the case now, and everyone is measuring in a consistent manner with "from file selection - suck up King Boo".

The above is an article about Survive, a pioneer in the history of Luigi's Mansion Speedrun, and the early Luigi's Mansion Speedrun, where the timing of measurements differed from SDA, and there was individuals changed sections at himself.
